The best Thai food I’ve ever eaten was at Klong in Manhattan – the taro spring rolls, the jade dumplings, the pad thai.

Cooking 101: 20 Lessons to kick start your cooking skill. I consider myself a decent cook. I don’t make anything overtly extravagent but I always have fun cooking in the kitchen. There’s some good information in these lessons including more efficient ways to do things – for instance I have never chopped an onion the “right” way but the method they describe would be faster.
Roasting coffee at home

I’m going to try roasting coffee beans at home. There’s a great site that has all kinds of information and products for home coffee roasting. The Popcorn Air Popper method is the most recommended. I’ll see if I can pick up a cheap recommended popper at the thrift store. I’ll probably do the thermometer mod too.
Pickling

I picked up a bucket of cheap pickling cucumbers, cukes to some, at the local farmers market on Saturday morning. I’ve made pickles before using a Dill Pickle recipe but I wanted something more exciting this time so I opted to make Kinda Sorta Sours from these American Pickle recipes.
Cooking for Engineers

Tagged as a website for people who have an analytical mind and like to cook, Cooking for Engineers offers a wealth of data on kitchen gear. I happened upon the article “Common Materials of Cookware” while perusing RSS feeds and found it quite informative as I’m currently looking at purchasing a good set of cookware. Now, I’ve narrowed down the brand and line I want to All-Clad LTD or Stainless and Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless.
UPDATE: I bought the Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless 13 piece set. It is absolutely wonderful to cook with.
Tasty soup

I just made some excellent soup from vegetables acquired from my garden. 8 tomatoes deseeded and chopped, 1 cucumber deseeded peeled and sliced, 1/2 cup rice, 2 tablespoons butter, 3 cups water, sugar and other seasonings. Throw everything in a stew pot and bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Easy and delicious.
